New 30-second video highlights utility efforts to build expensive, dirty gas plants instead of cost-saving clean energy.
LAS VEGAS, NV — Today, the Nevada Conservation League launched a satirical video as part of the Utility Watch Nevada campaign, highlighting NV Energy’s tactics of putting corporate profits over the best interests of its customers.
The utility has recently pushed through two costly and polluting methane gas power plants, and is now proposing a third in their latest Integrated Resource Plan. They are also pursuing massive rate increases and opposing solar energy, even though solar has cheaper and steadier prices and is overwhelmingly favored by Nevadans over fossil fuels.
“This video highlights the absurdity and callous behavior that NV Energy has towards Nevadans. While we’re struggling with record high energy bills and living through the climate crisis in real-time, they’re dedicated to enriching their shareholders,” said Kristee Watson, Executive Director of the Nevada Conservation League. “But our goal with this video isn’t just to inform — it’s to empower. We want our families, our friends, and our neighbors to know that they can advocate for change that reduces pollution and eases the financial burden caused by record-high utility bills. That’s why this video works in step with our Utility Watch Nevada petition.”
The video is being promoted across social media and digital platforms. It encourages viewers to take action by signing a petition demanding that NV Energy prioritize people over profits.
